Artist Statement
Alicia’s work explores the human body to understand disconnection, specifically Self-alienation and the impact of being alone in a group.
Rooted in her working class roots and with a wry sense of humor, she takes a scientific approach that examines function, literalism, and various materials to find answers. Her work is meant to be touched and handled.
Through the lens of labor, she presents the question: in a past, present, and possible future where our bodies are mere husks and our minds are rented out to technology, what then becomes of the relationship between ourselves and our bodies?
